Microsoft Corporation Principal Software Engineer in Redmond, Washington

The Commerce + Ecosystems organization at Microsoft is all about making Microsoft most successful in the cloud; we power all of Microsoft’s commerce for key businesses such as Azure, Office 365, and gaming. Within Commerce + Ecosystems, the Commerce Marketplace Engineering team is part of that mission. We need to ensure that all channels can sell and transact Microsoft cloud offerings, to ensure a secure, scalable Marketplace for Microsoft and our partners.

We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer t o join our organization to develop, prototype and drive platform(s) evolution initiatives such as developer experience, tooling, AI empowerment etc.

We are seeking an engineer who has the proven technical experience with cloud-based engineering with hands on prototyping in fast iterations. They will combine their technical skills with enthusiasm, ingenuity, results-orientation, and excellence in working with the rest of the team.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Work closely with a team of highly capable software engineers and product managers

  • Work with other Microsoft product teams and architects to drive new initiatives in

  • Sometimes unknown and fast evolving areas such as AI, willing to take challenges and fast iterations to prototyping and delivering results

  • Develop highly scalable and secure architectures by writing lots of good quality code

  • Interface with other engineers, managers, and business stakeholders to design and deliver coordinated solutions that meet customer needs

  • Influence and communicate a long-term technical vision/roadmap for your area

  • Provide oversight for technical decisions and deliver highly efficient and scalable solutions

  • Enhance engineering process to ensure scalability, quality, compliance.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 6+ years of software development experience in a cloud environment

  • 5+ years as a technical engineering leader

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 12+ years of software development experience

  • Demonstrable excellence in coding skills (Github repos)

  • Experience Azure, AWS, Google Cloud

  • Proficiency in C# or Java

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
