Job Description:

GDIT is seeking an Infrastructure Architect to manage applications in both cloud and on-prem environments for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Air and Radiation (OAR) Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards (OAQPS). The Infrastructure Architect is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the IT infrastructure that supports EPA OAQPS’ applications and related operations.

How an Infrastructure Architect will make an impact

  • Act as the infrastructure subject matter expert to include AWS cloud application hosting infrastructure, on-prem application hosting infrastructure, authentication, DevOps, security, networking, etc.

  • Design and implement scalable and secure IT infrastructure solutions that meet requirements and support software development process maturity.

  • Evaluate existing systems and infrastructure to identify areas for improvement, optimization, and consolidation.

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of EPA IT infrastructure (e.g., data exchanges, user authentication, hosting infrastructure (on-prem and cloud), security requirements, backup and recovery policies, and bring that knowledge to the project.

  • Responsible for future state infrastructure planning to support OAQPS applications and build infrastructure roadmaps for modernization and optimization leveraging a cloud environment.

  • Provide administration, monitoring, support critical system patches, respond to incidents, and schedule maintenance activities for OAQPS applications.

  • Develop and update security plans for cloud and on-prem infrastructure.

  • Creates, plans, and configures highly complex engineering systems for optimal application operations.

  • Designs and engineers highly complex infrastructures including installing, configuring, testing, and maintaining operating systems, licensed software, and system management tools.

  • Performs continual maintenance and creates solutions for security, backup, and redundancy problems.

  • Provides critical insight and guidance for the preparation and maintenance of all documentation for processes and procedures related to engineering projects.

  • Maintains current knowledge of rapidly changing technology, always on the lookout for new technologies, and works with management to evolve current processes.

  • Drives scalability and operability of supported infrastructure.

  • Implement comprehensive monitoring solutions to proactively identify and resolve performance issues, security vulnerabilities, and capacity constraints.

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED:

  • EDUACTION: High School Diploma/GED with 10 years of related experience, or Associate's Degree with 8 years of experience, or Bachelor's Degree with 6 years of experience.

  • Required Skillset:

  • Proven experience (minimum of 6+ years) in designing, implementing, and managing IT infrastructure solutions in a corporate environment.

  • Strong understanding of networking, server architecture, virtualization, cloud computing, and storage technologies.

  • Expertise in infrastructure design principles, including scalability, reliability, security, and performance optimization.

  • AWS Cloud experience

  • Proficiency in at least one programming language

  • Ability to quickly gain deep understanding of EPA infrastructure and technologies to inform strategic planning.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex technical requirements into practical solutions.

  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • CERTIFICATIONS: AWS certification(s) is a plus

  • SECURITY LEVEL CLEARANCE: Ability to obtain and maintain public trust clearance.

The likely salary range for this position is $160,389 - $272,667. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
